Challenge to the South East Plan

In June 2009 Guildford Borough Council challenged the Government’s South East Plan, the document that will shape future development of the region until 2026.  The challenge was made on the grounds that the plan’s requirement for a 'selective review’ of Green Belt land to the north east of Guildford had not been subject to a full environmental appraisal and look at alternatives to Green Belt development.

The Secretary of State's Legal team have said they do not intend to resist the Council's challenge.  The formal terms on which tha claim will be settled are expected shortly.  Until then we do not know what this will mean for teh South East Paln or Guildford Borough.  It is a success that the defence of proper lawful process in planning for the future development of the borough by the Borough Council was successful.
